Singapore’s private institutions are regulated by Council for Private Education (CPE), a statutory body under the Ministry of Education of Singapore. It was established under the Singapore Private Education Act, which regulates Singapore’s private education institutions primarily through legislative power.
Therefore, the quality of teaching and diplomas in Singapore’s private institutions are recognized by Singapore Ministry of Education. Singapore’s private schools are generally run in conjunction with well-known schools in the United States or Commonwealth countries, such as the United Kingdom, Australia, or in other countries. Students from private universities in Singapore can transfer to a joint school one year or two after they have met certain requirements.
The Private Education Council of Singapore has issued the EduTrust Education Trust Certification Scheme, which separates well-qualified private schools from those of poorer levels. Private schools that are not certified by the Education Trust may be suspended from enrolling international students in the future. Therefore, for certified schools, students can be confident of a quality education.
